The African proverb reminds us, "it takes a village to raise a child." We are the village. Please join PUSH Excel's effort to bridge the achievement gap by empowering students academically, socially, politically, and economically.

We are thankful for all of our caring partners. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the organizationl, and they do it all because they want to make a difference. You can too.

Who Volunteers?

Individuals, corporate teams, families, youth, retirees, college and university students -- you!

How Can You Help?

As a PUSH-Excel volunteer, you'll be placed in a position that meets your needs and interests. Some of our positions include:
Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour Chaperone
The Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour has provided hundreds of area high school students an opportunity to visit over 60 historically black colleges and universities throughout the country. Through this program, many students have experienced diverse institutions such as Howard University in Washington, D.C.; North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina; Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas; Spelman College and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. The tour is an annual event and chaperones are needed every year.
Art Instructors
Help children bring out their creativity through writing, painting, drawing, singing, and dancing. If you have talent in one or more of these areas, we need you.
Assistant Grant Writer
Assist the national office with writing grants and identifying additional funding sources.
The unfortunate reality with public education is that low-income fare far worse in school than their wealthier peers. In an effort to level the educational playing field, PUSH-Excel offers free toturing for academically struggling students. Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a 5th through 8th grader and meet once or twice a week to provide support in homework, test preparation, etc. If you like working with young people, and can teach basic skills, please join our team!
