Historically Black Colleges & Universities Tour

15th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour

January 22, 2013

Over the past 14 years, PUSH for Excellence has taken over 1,000 students from Chicago, surrounding communities, and across the country on a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour. The purpose of the tour is to expose students to college options and encourage them to attend the school of their choice. Oftentimes these students are the first generation within their family to attend a college or university. PUSH Excel tries to equip them with as much information as possible for making a college choice that is right for them.

In preparation for the HBCU Tour, students are required to attend mandatory college preparatory workshops and parent-student orientation sessions. Workshops include information on financial aid, career options, professional writing, and leadership development. Non-Illinois particpants are exempt from these requirements. The tour has had great impact on the lives of participants...65% go on to matriculate at an HBCU.
