National Reclaim Our Youth
PUSH Excel has been dedicated to addressing resource disparities in education such as insufficient staff, lack of remedial programs, deficient parent participation, lack of teaching resources, or low student attendance by providing the following services:
Tutorial Sessions
Oratorical competitions
Character Education
Entrepreneurship Training
Career development
Parent Workshops
Technology Access
Financial Literacy
Over 17 faith-based community organizations have participated in the program. As a result, over 100 adults have applied to become friends to the over 100 youth who have been referred to the program. Member churches and social services are provided as additional support for the youths and their families.
Memorandum of Understanding
Juvenile court judges work with area clergy and Reclaim Our Youth coalition members to design a "Memorandum of Understanding" that clearly delineates the role of the court system in the youth referral and follow-up process. The Memorandum also clarifies the basic expectations of the church, social service workers, juveniles and family members.
Youth are referred to the Juvenile Diversion Mentoring Program by judges of the Family Division, Superior Court. The judge to whom the youth case is assigned determines whether the youth is an appropriate candidate for the Juvenile Diversion Program based upon recommendations from the Court Social Services Division, the prosecutor, and the defense attorney. The probation officer handles the paperwork and processing for all referrals.
